Amador County’s Savor Amador 2015 showcases local winemakers and Farm-to-Fork tapas to benefit Sutter Creek Elementary Schools

Local winemakers fund art and music programs with Amador County food and wine

On Saturday, May 16, 2015, from 6 9 p.m. four of Amador County’s star winemaking families will come together for a unique evening pairing Amador County wines with farm to fork tapas direct from the gardens of Amador County. Savor Amador will be held at the Bella Grace tasting room in the middle of downtown Sutter Creek.  This town is home to nine wine tasting rooms.

The Havill family has generously donated their historic venue for the event, Bella Grace is housed in a beautifully restored home and garden built in the 1860’s.  Five years later the Brignolia family purchased the home and lived in it while they built an empire supplying the gold industry with supplies, amassing a fortune, and buying up the town.  Join the Sutter Creek food and wine families in this building definitive of Victorian charm to celebrate the connection between local food and wine.

Savor Amador will feature the wines of Sutter Creek families Bella Grace Vineyards, Karmere Winery, Drytown Cellars and Feist Wines.  San Francisco chef Darius Somary, a recent transplant to the gold country will pair regional dishes with the award winning wines.

Guests will dine al fresco to the jazz of Jack Tone Riordan and his band. Riordan is a Sutter Creek Elementary graduate and son of local favorite teacher Lottie Tone. Of Riordan, SF Jazz Hotplate says, “one of the Bay Area's most gifted guitar players. He first caught our ear in Wil Blades' band, and blew us all away with his relentless chops and deep sense of soul.”
These winemakers know that it takes a lot of beer to make wine and the good folks at the newly opened Provisions will be hand selecting a keg of craft beer to serve for the evening. ($5 donation/ beer)

This intimate evening will be full of the hospitality and western vibe that Amador County embodies.  Tickets are $40/ person and are available at participating wineries and

Fond Farewell from Susan’s Place after 28 years in Sutter Creek

Sutter Creek says goodbye to one of its’ longest running “Corner Stone” restaurants, “Susan’s Place”. After 28 years of providing amazing cuisine, with a “Fresh Rustic Mediterranean Flare”, Susan has decided to retire and spend more time with her husband Dick and their family.

From the moment you enter Susan’s Place, you feel more relaxed. The ambiance of a garden courtyard setting, with quiet music, greenery with twinkling lights, and fountains that greet you, make you feel welcomed and your experience has begun.

Susan has always had the “Farm to Fork” concept, way before it was “Chic” to do. Buying fresh produce from the local Farmers Markets to bring to her restaurant and make the best dinner possible for her customers, has always been Susan’s forte. The wine list at Susan’s is an amazing and extensive array of local wines that would satisfy even the most selective wine enthusiast.

Writing this, as someone who has put on numerous events for many organizations, Susan’s Place has been generous to a fault in supporting the non-profit organizations of Amador County, the schools and any other benefit that has needed help. Her generosity has defined her and her business.

Sutter Creek will miss this amazing restaurant and Susan the owner. Her last day will be March 29th and her words to us are: “I wish to thank the people of Amador County, Sutter Creek and all of the loyal customers who gave me the opportunity to fulfill my dream for the better part of three decades. I would like to express my personal appreciation to the association we have had through the years and thank you all for your generosity, kindness and support. Everyone is invited to the restaurant next Sunday, March 29th, from 3pm to 7pm for the final goodbye and closing festivities. Once again, thanks for you kindness, friendship and support"  Sincerely:  Susan

Thank You Susan, from all of us who have enjoyed your amazing restaurant and have benefited from your friendship. Thanks again for 28 years of excellent food! Sutter Creek, Amador County and many, many visitors will miss you!

This is to inform you that Susan and “Susan’s Place Wine Bar & Eatery” will be closing its doors and officially “Retire” Sunday March 29th 2015.
After 28 years in business with much thought and reflection, it is with bittersweet emotion that I must announce the closing of “Susan’s Place”. I wish to thank the people of Amador County, Sutter Creek and all of the loyal customers who gave me the opportunity to fulfill my dream the better part of three decades. I would like to express my personal appreciation for the association we have had through the years and thank you all for your generosity, kindness and support.
Please join us to say goodbye on our final day, Sunday March 29, 2015 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm for a “What’s Left in the Pantry Party” and “Wine Sale” (For what is left on the wine racks). *Please bring cash for “Wine Sale” purchases!
A thought to take with you:

Today in the midst of your busy life,
may you have at least one moment to sit
back and relax, when you don’t have to
do anything or be anywhere in particular,
may you have a moment to remember all
that the past has given you and to look
forward to all that may be waiting in the
days ahead, but mostly, in that moment,
may you realize here and now what a gift
your life is not just to you but to everyone
   who knows you…
