Mother Lode Harvest Hosts Farm Tour, Cooking Class - March 7 and March 26

Mother Lode Harvest (MLH), a local food and farm products association, is having its winter quarter Open House at one of its member farms, Butte Mountain Farm in Jackson, on Saturday, March 7, from 1 to 4 pm. Farmer Carolyn Boyd and her helpers will conduct tours of the farm, which will include the sheep barn, the deluxe chicken coop, the greenhouse, and the extensive garden, and will discuss farming using sustainable methods. Information about Mother Lode Harvest will be available, and there will be light refreshments featuring local foods. All are invited to attend the Open House.

This event is free, though donations to Mother Lode Harvest are welcome (suggested donation $5.oo per adult). Butte Mountain Farm is located at 17336 Butte Mountain Road, 3 miles down Butte Mountain Road from the intersection with Clinton Road. Please call 209-223-4814 for more information.

On Thursday, March 26, Mother Lode Harvest will hold a seasonal cooking class at Amador 360, 18590 Hwy 49 in Plymouth, at 5:30 pm. Eating food that is local and seasonal this time of year means eating lots of wonderful greens. Chef and MLH member Shelly Hills will demonstrate several mouth-watering ways to cook the tasty greens that are available locally now. Brian Miller of Amador 360 will give wine pairing tips for the dishes featured, and attendees can enjoy tastes of the food and wine. The class is open to the public, with limited seating, and is $10 per person. Please call Michelle Grondin at 209-419-2503 to reserve your seat.

Behind the Cellar Door 
March 6th, 7th & 8th; 11am - 4pm
 
On March 7 & 8 from 11am - 4pm, Amador's best wineries are opening their cellar doors especially for you! Experience what the Wine Spectatorcalls... "a desirable destination for wine lovers." BellaGrace will participate at our Upton Road location with a demonstration of coopering (barrel making) at 1 & 2:30pm, hosting a Cincinnati chili bar and offering discounts on selected wines.  For additional information or to order tickets, visit the AVA website. Consider attending the kickoff Winemaker Reception - a benefit in partnership with American River College's School of Culinary Arts takes place in the grand Terra d'Oro cellar among the barrel rows of aging wines on Friday evening March 6th
Start on Steiner Spring Fling  
April 11th, 11am - 4pm
Join 8 wineries on Steiner Road for another fun and complementary Start on Steiner event!  Spring Fling offers small food bites, wine specials and Spring activities.  We will be serving the ever popular lamb sausage on a bed of polenta with a dollop of Jalapeno jelly.  Be sure to enter our ladder golf tournament with a new winner every hour!!  All the fun of Behind the Cellar Door without the crowds!!  
Amador Four Fires Festival 
May 2, 2015
Amador Four Fires Festival is a new concept wine and food festival, coming May 2, 2015 to the Amador County Fairgrounds.  Four celebrated wine regions inspire the art of Amador's winemakers and winegrowers, and the cuisine of star chefs cooking with open flame.  More than "just another tasting."  A veritable rural county fair teeming with all things wine and food beckoning you to explore around every corner of the ten-acre site.  Come early and bring a big appetite for a sensory adventure.  BellaGrace was an early sponsor of Four Fires and will be leading workshops and pouring wine.  Tickets are now available atamadorfourfires.com
 
Barbera Festival 
June 13th, 11am - 5pm
'In celebration of its fifth year, and to continue to provide a premier guest experience while enabling more attendees to participate, and showcase another beautiful historic barbera vineyard, the Festival is moving to the original home of barbera in Amador County: Terra d'Oro/Montevina Winery. Located just down the street from previous years' event site, this larger location features a beautiful meadow spotted with ancient oaks tucked among hillside vineyards.  BellaGrace has poured our Barbera every year at this amazing festival and will be there again this year!  Tickets go on sale March 1st through theBarbera Festival website.

All wineries in North America producing Rosé wines are invited to enter The Rose Competition in March

Open to All North American Wineries
Judging at SIMI Winery - March 25, 2015

This professional competition celebrating the growing Rosé category is open to all North American wineries producing still (non-sparkling) Rosé wines.  The word "rosé" must be stated on the front or back label of the wine bottle for a wine to be eligible for entry.  This blind wine competition will be held at SIMI Winery in Healdsburg, California on March 25, 2015.  The competition is being directed by Bob Ecker, Napa Valley based wine journalist and wine judge. Wines in the competition will be evaluated by panels of distinguished wine judges.

Two categories of Rosé wines will be considered: "Dry" and "A Little Sweet."  A $50 entry fee (plus $2.74 online transaction fee) per wine is required.  The deadline for receiving eligible wines is March 20, 2015.  Double Gold, Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded along with a Best in Class in each category.

After the first page, hit "Register" to continue.  Participants will be asked a short series of questions about their entered wine.

A subsequent celebratory event, showcasing the Gold Medal winning Rosé wines will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at SIMI Winery.  Details for this public tasting event will be announced soon.

Wines must be shipped to arrive at SIMI Winery no later than Friday, March 20, 2015.  Wines, entry forms and online payment must received by the deadline in order for wines to be considered eligible.

Winter hibernation of the vines is coming to a close as spring approaches.   Pruning will begin shortly (the cutting of the vines canes,) which promotes new growth for the upcoming months.
