Fans of Amador County wines will not be fed a steady diet of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and other ‘mainstream’ varieties when they visit the historic region’s charming small family wineries.

Instead, you will be treated to a cornucopia of old-vine zinfandels, syrahs, sangioveses, barberas, viogniers and other ‘off-the-beaten-track’ , which flourish in Amador’s sun-bathed hillside vineyards.

These delicious, food-friendly wines will be showcased at the Amador Vintners’ annual “Behind the Cellar Door” weekend wine extravaganza on March 1st

The event features tastings from barrel and bottle at 39 Amador County wineries, along with a diverse array of entertainment, demonstrations, tours and seminars. Library and vertical tastings, live music, gourmet foods, numerous winemaker dinners and perhaps Sunday brunch fill out the weekend’s festivities.

Presale tickets are *$50 for both days, *$35 Sunday only and $10 designated driver which will be available until February 25th at midnight. Tickets will be available at participating wineries during the event for $5 more each.

*Must be 21 or older to purchase. Tickets on sale now at www.amadorwine.com

Feist Wines Celebrates Two Years In Amador City – Sat Nov 9

October, 2013  Amador City, CA – On Saturday, November 9, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Feist Wines will enliven California’s smallest incorporated town with their second anniversary party.  This limited production winery in Amador City releases only 600 cases a year and has been the recipient of many prestigious awards including a best of class prize for Reserve Barbera from the 2013 California State Fair.

Guests will savor fine artisan cheeses and Andrae’s Bakery breads with the wines of Feist.  The winery offers samples of their 2012 wines from the barrel. In honor of the anniversary, these wines, which are about to be bottled, will be offered for sale at serious discounts.

Specializing in Zinfandel and Barbera, winemaker Anthony Feist also enjoys working with Rhone varietals which express themselves well in Amador County, This year Feist adds a Fair Play Cabernet to their line up.  “I love El Dorado Cab” says winemaker Feist, “it has great fruitiness and depth and I have often heard folks compare it to Napa Cabernet.”

When Feist Wines opened there were only three in town tasting rooms in Amador County. Now Sutter Creek boasts nine and word has it that there will be more in Amador City.   Feist provides a great space with their tasting room in the middle of the block. This 150 year old building with original douglas fir floors and exposed brick epitomizes historical Gold Country charm and the wines indicate the quality present in Amador County.

In recognition of two years in business, Feist hosts the Allen Frank band with stand up bass player Steve Doss. Winemaker, Tony Feist sits in.  Feist trained in classical violin as a child and played with the San Francisco youth symphony.  He is self taught on the piano and guitar as well as the harmonica. The group plays an eclectic mix of music from the blues (Allen Franks’ calling), rock, folk and country.

As well as many great wines, the Feists have welcomed two children to their family in the last two years bringing the total to five.  With plans to grow to 10,000 cases, there will be plenty of work to do.

2011 Grenache - 34% off in September!

September Wine of The Month
6 bottles for $99 (reg $25/bottle)

Harvest has begun, which means lots of action at the winery and cooler evenings to start enjoying red wines again. Grenache is a perfect "transition wine" from summer to fall, light bodied but full of juicy flavor and spiciness.  It's absolutely incredible with some homemade butternut squash and cinnamon soup, even when used in the soup. We think you'll enjoy!

Harvest 2013 Is Here

It's an early season this year. Already we've harvested all the white grapes (Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Chenin Blanc) and they're steadily fermenting away in stainless steel tanks. It looks like we'll start bringing in the reds in a couple of weeks and harvest will be over before you know it!
See the latest photos and harvest news on our Facebook page.
